How It Began

Green Rhino Building Systems was founded on a vision for a smarter, more sustainable way to build. It all started when architect Don Grieb, AIA, shared his innovative, patented building system with Daniel Dwyer—one of Scottsdale’s early pioneers in green construction. Don’s system eliminated the need for traditional wood framing and drywall, two major contributors to the construction industry’s carbon footprint. With old-growth timber rapidly vanishing and gypsum production consuming massive water and energy resources, the mission was clear: improve and evolve this breakthrough system to meet international code standards and make it viable across the U.S. and abroad.

In 2005, the first prototypes were built and tested for environmental and structural integrity. Between 2006 and 2009, several successful projects were completed in the Phoenix area. However, like many businesses, the 2008 economic downturn temporarily paused progress. Despite the setback, belief in the system’s potential never faded. By 2015, development resumed with improved materials and full-scale testing. In March 2021, Green Rhino Building Systems achieved a major milestone—receiving an official Evaluation Services Report confirming compliance with international building standards.
